Hello Joy Clair Friends! Tia here from RockyMtnCraftia.com.  Today’s Design Team card features a classic Christmas Floral design. As many of us are still working on our Holiday cards, I want to encourage and inspire you to create a variety of themed cards.

Earlier this month I featured several whimsical Christmas cards featuring Santa Claus from the Christmas Cheer digital stamp set. But just as the saying goes, “variety is the spice of life”. I wanted to create that spice using florals in a more classic looking card. The florals from the Gather Together release from earlier last month are perfect! The set specifically used is the Everything Better digital set.

Card Design Layout

I knew I was going to be using a large oval die to cut out my floral design. A kraft card base of 5 x 6.5 in was used. I followed the pattern theory of “large, medium and small” and used prints in “gallon, quart and pint”; amounts. My large print was the Christmas plaid. The medium print is of the holly leaves. For the small print I used no print at all and added solid cranberry cardstock that tied the two patterned papers together.

After printing out my floral swag, I die cut it with Gina Marie’s Loopy Oval Die. After coloring the florals, I used a dauber to apply Vintage Photo-Distress Ink around it. Then, I popped it up on foam tape for some dimension. I used a Merry Christmas sentiment from my stash and I inked around it and the card base the same way. When my card still felt flat, I added ribbon!

Marker Selection

Marker selection was super easy! I used a W2 to create the look of a white flower. C2 & C1 outlined the florals for shadow. All the greenery was done in G24. The red flowers were a combination of R22; R14 and R27. Each of the large flower blooms was completed with a
coating of Wink-Of-Stella clear glitter.

Thanks again friends for following along. I hope to have inspired you to “spice-up” the holiday designs you’re creating! Hop on over to the Joy Clair Designs Facebook group and share with us what designs your working on!
