fHi Joy Clair Friends!  Cathy on the blog today with an idea for combining backgrounds with digital images.  My card uses two images from Joy Clair Design’s You Fill My Day Digital Stamp set with a background made from scrap paper strips.

I started with the “Let’s Get Together Soon” sentiment and then added in two butterflies..  The sentiment is about 2.25″ and the butterflies are a little smaller than two inches.  The png format of the digital stamps makes it easy to resize images and layer them in my word processing document.

Card Design

First, I made a decision to create a paper strip background from patterned paper in my stash.  If you don’t have strip dies, you can simply cut strips of paper ranging from 1/8″ to 1/2″ wide.  I found the center of my card and placed the strips on an angle.  Keeping size and the paper in mind when placing the strips makes for an interesting pattern.  At one point, I felt I needed a wider paper, so I added in the 3/8″ darker yellow patterned paper.

My next step was coloring the image with Copic markers after printing it using an inkjet printer.  I chose Copic colors from the background papers that I wanted to feature in the butterflies. Once the coloring was done, it was time to put the card together!  After trimming the the image, I added a border, and finished it off with some embellishments and a touch of Wink of Stella on the butterfly wings.

I hope you are inspired to try this technique for creating a background to enhance the beauty of one of your Joy Clair Designs digital stamps!  Thanks for stopping by the blog. ~Cathy
