Hello Joy Clair Friends!  Cathy on the blog today using a card with lots of white space!  It’s not my typical style card, but I love how this turned out.  I had a few more images printed on Xpress It paper left from my Mother’s Day Floral Card, so I thought I would make another card using the Floral Joy Digital Stamp.

For this card, I used the cluster of flowers in the bottom-right corner as my fuss-cut focal image. The small buds gave me the chance to bring in a fourth flower color.

I used yellows, coals, blue, and white for my floral color palette and colored using my Copics.  Contrast and depth appeal to my eye, so I kept that in mind as I colored the yellow flowers.  E42 and BG 70 are used to color around the flowers and greenery to make them pop.

Constructing A Card with Lots of White Space

CAS cards are not my natural style, but I truly love the look.  Design “matters” on CAS cards because of the limited number of elements.  Since I am not trained in art, my design knowledge is narrow.  I get around that when I make CAS cards by combining lots of white space with embossing folders and a little layering.

The white embossing folder keeps my eye moving, which helps add some visual leeway with placement of the image and sentiment.  This design worked on a plain white background, but I loved the embossing folder with both the flowers and the sentiment from the Floral Joy Digital Stamp.

Thanks for stopping by the Joy Clair blog today.  I hope you are inspired to try making a card with lots of white space yourself. ~Cathy
