Hello Joy Clair friends! Tia here from RockyMtnCraftia.com I love that Joy Clair Designs has a fun monthly challenge for you-in the name of the Monthly Mood Board! Ok-it’s not really a challenge; it’s inspiration! But, you can make it a challenge for yourself by following along and that’s what I did for my design team card today!

I selected the floral vase from the “Sending A Little Message” digital stamp set. I think Joy Clair Designs has some of the best floral digis available! And I loved the variety of flowers in this vase, it really allowed me to use a lot of the mood board colors.

Card Design

My photo editing software has a selection of wallpapers and one of them is this cute “Happy Thoughts”. I copied and multiplied the word ‘happy’ and sprinkled it around the focal image and ended with ‘thoughts’ at the bottom. After printing, I die cut the image with Gina Marie’s- Cloud Nested Labels found in the Joy Clair Designs shop.

Color Selection

Now, I did what I NEVER do-colored FIRST and selected papers LAST! I was so focused on selecting COPICS that worked from the Mood Board and then wanted to see them together that I spaced out on looking for my background papers.

Here are the COPIC colors I matched to the Mood Board:

Flowers: RV66; V06; RV55; RV13; YR14; YR15; E57; YG03; YG25

Vase: E40; E43; E44;

Stones: YG01; FBG2

Card Layout

It was a struggle to find papers to bring the layout together. The situation confirmed for me that I am a pick your papers first and pull your inks second kinda girl. I played with hot pinks, oranges, plum-purples and yellow. Then, I really lucked out finding the plum colored houndstooth pattern paper. The diagonal yellow stripes added to the movement of the ‘happy’ words on the card. Using the contrasting plum cardstock helps the focal image standout. I brought everything together and adhered it to a 5×7 card base.

The button came to be because I had this idea of creating blue/green stones in the vase. I wanted to balance green down the card and liked the idea of a button over enamel dots. Plus, the button pulls your eye to the word ‘thoughts’ and I really liked that.

I hope you get inspired by the November Mood Board and challenge yourself to play along! If you do, make sure to upload a photo of your card to the Joy Clair Stamp Projects Facebook Group Page so we can all see.

Until next time-Get Crafty!
