Hello Joy Clair Friends!  Cathy on the blog today with a Mother’s Day floral card using one of the images from the Floral Joy Digital Stamp set. It comes with a collection of five flowers, greenery, and five sentiments.

Mother’s Day Floral Card Recipe

I used the top, left image for my Mother’s Day floral card.  Early in the process, I decided that I would fussy cut the image and place it in the bottom corner of the card and fussy cut again.  Spring is just beginning to show up where I live, so the beautiful yellow daffodils blooming near me inspired my coloring. I pulled out some new OLO markers for the flowers and finished coloring with my Copics.

I used deeper yellows and more color variation for the flower in the back and kept the front flower a little lighter.  Coloring a white daisy can be tricky, but using some BV20 and E42 on the petals with E42 for shadows in the space between the flowers and leaves makes the whites pop!  This close-up also shows how I finished the card.  The bottom corner is actually cut away!

Constructing the Mother’s Day Floral Card

Yellow and red look so happy together, so I picked a red background paper to show off the flowers.  I added a white frame, and popped the flower cluster up on foam.  The Mother’s Day sentiment is heat embossed in black to tie in with the black outline on the image.  I added three enamel dots to keep your eye moving using visual triangles of both yellow and blue colors.

The decision about how to “show off” the cut-away corner took the longest to figure out.  To do that, I pulled out some red paper, ran it through a cutting plate and adhered it inside the white card base.  I added a rectangle of white paper to write a message inside the card.  I hope I have inspired you to try this technique yourself!
